A distributed computing system for data acquisition and control in experiments using a synchrotron radiation facility

A distributed computer system has been chosen to support the data acquisition and control requirements of experiments using the Daresbury synchrotron radiation facility. The reasons for adoption of a distributed computing philosophy are given and implementation of the system is described. Future developments in the support of a new synchrotron radiation source are briefly considered.
