Is There Space for Theory in Modern Commercial Search Engines?
Ricardo A. Baeza-Yates · 2013
In this invited talk we strip current Web search engines to enumerate the main problems where theory may be still useful for improving the quality and performance of them. The problems cover all the main processes involved in a search engine: crawling, indexing, searching, and ranking. We also explore problems related to the user experience where theory may also be relevant.
