Eigenvalues of Two- and Three-Dimensional Systems by Matrix Methods

Michel Nicola · American Journal of Physics · 1970

A new method for finding the eigenvalues of two- and three-dimensional systems using matrices is given. The method is based on the principle that a physical variable takes on all the classically permissible values except those ruled out by the uncertainty principle and by the noncommutativity of some of the dynamical variables composing the system. Thus, the uncertainty principle is shown to yield positive results in spite of its negative character.
