Positive Experiences with a Multiprocessing System

Encouraging expermnces gained from the Michigan Terminal System (MTS) are reported as a response to a recent survey of multiprocesslng orgamzatlons by Enslow [7] This paper discusses the importance of the degree of symmetry w]thm multiport system orgamzatlons, the ease of Implementation expermnced with the symmetmcally orgamzed operating system nucleus for MTS, throughput statistics for MTS which are better than those generally documented in the hterature, and underlying reasons that might account for the impressive statistics Since some of these results are at variance with the conventional wisdom concerning mult~processor systems, a strong recommendation is made for additional modeling and measurement analysis based upon these experiences.
