This collection of papers is concerned with chaos and noise in a range of dynamical systems, mostly within a context of mechanics.It is published in connection with a Euromech Colloquium, on Chaos and Noise in Dynamical Systems, to be held at Lodz, Poland, 20-25 September 1993.The papers in this issue address, in a variety of contexts, many of the points we have made.We hope they will provide an information source and a stimulus for the much needed effort required to fully understand the importance of noise and chaos in mechanical systems.
