Results and effects of VMS control in Aalborg

Lone Dorge · 1996

In the city of Aalborg, situated in the north-western part of Denmark, a dynamic route guidance/delay information system has been installed. The system, called TRAFIX, seeks to obtain a better distribution of traffic across two links (a bridge and a tunnel) connecting Aalborg with Norresundby on the north side of the inlet Limfjorden. The system automatically detects delays on the major north- and southbound routes leading toward the two links and uses this information to guide motorists, via 14 variable messages signs (VMS) placed on major inroads, to the fastest route across Limfjorden. The Aalborg network was one of two test sites in the DRIVE II project QUO VADIS (V2042).
