Interobserver Reliability of Direct Magnitude Estimations of Articulatory Defectiveness

Herbert F. Schliesser, Christine A. Stevens, Clifford E. Bruce · Perceptual and Motor Skills · 1973

This study concerned scaling articulatory defectiveness by the method of direct magnitude estimations. The effects of mild, moderate, and severe standards on interobserver reliability for “controlled” speech samples were examined. It was concluded that, while a moderate standard may be preferred, the influence of altering the standard is slight and “controlled” samples of speech are equally acceptable to spontaneous samples.
