As Cognitive Radio (CR) technology is recently emerged as a potential solution to overcome the problem of spectrum scarcity, Cognitive Wireless Mesh Networks (CogMesh) have great potential for enhancing the performance of wireless networks and meeting the demands of future generation wireless applications. By utilizing the available frequency bands that are unutilized by primary (licensed) users, they can introduce a considerable enhancement for the last-mile broadband wireless internet access. However, some challenges such as interference, fading and environmental noise can influence the performance of the licensed network. In this paper, we present a cooperative sensing scheme with interference mitigation for CogMesh networks. Moreover, the queuing system delay is studied, and a novel technique for dynamic channel allocation in CogMesh networks is presented. Based on multi-channel and time slotted scenario, the proposed scheme determines the available channels and allocates the packets in a scenario such that the average delay of CogMesh users packets is reduced and high throughput can be achieved. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme can improve the throughput of CR mesh networks.
