A Union Function for Neural and Psychological Response
Chen Wenxi · The Journal of General Psychology · 1999
The union function proposed in this article is a generalization of the stimulus-effect model formerly established by the author. The union function has a better fit with experimental data in various sensory channels than does G. T. Fechner's (1877) logarithmic law or S. S. Stevens's (1957) power function law; it also has the generality to suggest rules or regularities relevant to local and global psychophysics. The goodness of fit with experimental data is demonstrated with numerical examples.
