The authors presents a special-purpose configurable software for a modular distributed process control system whose architecture is based on tightly coupled multiprocessor nodes connected by a high-speed serial communication link. The software consists of two modules, an activator containing the real-time algorithms acting on a specified database, and a configurator interacting with the operator and updating the previous database. By taking advantage of the node multiprocessor architecture, this organization allows easier and less expensive solutions of reliability and availability problems with respect to classical voting methods. 7 references.
