Deriving a Personality Characteristic from Test-Taking Behavior

Students were asked to indicate how sure they were of items on a test. Whether a student was under- or over-confident in the accuracy of his knowledge was determined by comparing the number of correct items with the degree of confidence expressed. A moderate consistency in this trait was found from one test to another.
