The Internet has become the Wild Wild West of business. The benefits of increased revenue and reduced costs have to be weighed against the risks associated with the lawlessness of the medium. Modern business has become used to the protection of legislation and the associated forces of law that have built up over thousands of years of trading in a physical environment, where you can identify your trading partner by their appearance, their voice and their handwriting. However, like all frontier societies, crime on the Internet is both ubiquitous and difficult to prosecute.
