A simple formula for the variance of the median filter output with Laplacian input

An approximation formula for the variance of the output of the median filter when the input is a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with Laplacian probability density function is proposed. Numerical results show that the proposed formula agrees very well with the exact results for a wide range of N.>
