Theory-Based Development of Computer Microworlds
Barry Biddlecomb · Journal of Research in Childhood Education · 1994
This article details the development of computer microworlds based on a previously developed model of children's construction of counting schemes in a whole number context. The use of the model in the development of the computer microworlds is illustrated with respect to possible actions available for the children's use in the environments. It is argued that the computer environments are not instantiations of the model, but are the result of choices constrained by the model. Two dynamic feedback loops are pointed out: one between programmer and model-builder and one between model-builder and child.
