D5: 1/2" full-bit component digital VTR format

The field of television recording is changing dramatically, developments in storage technology are enabling new methods of programme production and raising questions about the future role of the video tape recorder. The D5 format is unique in the way that it addresses the challenges presented by changing technology. By specifically including support for such diverse applications as archiving, enhanced definition TV, post production off-line storage and HDTV, the D5 format recognises that the production world is changing. The use of several new processing techniques maximise the benefits that tape can offer and ensure that the D5 format has a place in the future production world.
