Platform independent translations for a Compilable Ada Abstract Syntax

This paper presents an overview of communications soflumre used in the Advanced Field Artillew Tactical Data System (AFATDS -U.S. Army) that p&ides for the transfer of Ada objects across compiler and processor boundaries using intermediate data representations seleqxl by the client application.A set of generic translauon procedures that convert Ada objects to and from intermediate representations is descrii as a reuse component.To support reuse, the translation procedures are designed so that other intermediate representations can be implemented if desired The translation procedures am transfer mechanism independent, and have a clean, modular interfb to the IA) services mechanism.An automatic some code generation tool that produces translations for record objects is also discussed.
