ASYMPTOTIC STRUCTURE OF A STEADY PLANAR REACTIVE INFILTRATION INTERFACE

Asok K. Sen · The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics · 1988

The structure of a steady planar reactive infiltration interface is examined in the following asymptotic limits: (i) the density of the solid component of the porous medium is much larger than the equilibrium concentration of the mobile species in the liquid phase, and (ii) the dissolution reaction is much faster than mass diffusion. In each case, an equation describing the porosity variations within the interfacial region is derived. The equation is solved using the method of matched asymptotic expansions. The solution clearly reveals the transition from initial to final porosities through the structure of this interfacial region.
