Ammar Huneiti, Wesam Al Mobaideen · 2007
Abstract: This paper highlights the need for advanced performance support methods to deal with the increasing complexity of modern products and systems. The paper introduces a conceptual model for advanced PSSs outlining a review of the state of practice in recently developed PSSs. In these systems, Job-related tasks of the abstract type “know-how ” are processed by the technical documentation component. In contrast, job-related tasks of the abstract type “what-to-do ” are processed by the knowledge-based expert advisor component. The paper also discusses state-of-the-art technologies that can be utilised to deliver an advanced performance support. These include adaptive hypermedia and knowledge-based systems. Different types of knowledge needed for advanced performance support which include domain, user-related, task-related, and expert knowledge, are identified.
