The aim of this paper is to survey direct adaptive control for linear multivariable systems. The discrete-time case is emphasized because of the increasing use of digital computers. Some adaptive control structures are given, as well as the different assumptions made on the process in order to achieve some specified objectives. Trends, new solutions and open problems are also discussed.
