Proposal for a program support facility

This paper presents a preliminary definition of a program support facility (PSF). A PSF supports a programming effort with reporting operations and documentation. It interacts with other software running on the host operating system, and thus can perform many of its functions automatically.The properties of a PSF are described here in the context of IBM's OS/360 or 370, but the principles are applicable to any hardware and operating system sophisticated enough to support them.
