One department's evolution

A ten-year anniversary is a good occasion to look back and ponder the evolution of my department at Bunker Hill Community College. When I first joined the Computer Programming Technology Department in September 1985, the main focus of course offerings was the Programming Technology option. This A.S. career option was the original Bunker Hill Community College computer major which had necessitated a computing department separate from the Business Department. This option offered students training in business programming leading to a level-entry job as a (COBOL) programmer in one of the Boston area's many data processing departments. At that time I was hired to teach courses that were offered as part of the department's newly created transfer option, an A.A. degree in Computer Science.
