Capturing musical knowledge in software systems

Barry Truax · Interface · 1991

An outline of an approach to computer composition in which software design and compositional design form a feedback loop based on the “acquisition” of the composer's own knowledge. The feedback loop in knowledge acquisition and implementation is seen as a way of avoiding the risk of falling prey to outmoded compositional models, such as those of instrumental music, which are often used in contemporary computer music composition.
