Error Estimation in the Spatial Discretization of Multiscale Bridging Models

Yu Zou, Roger Ghanem · Multiscale Modeling and Simulation · 2005

In multiscale problems, bridging models are needed between states in different scales and to identify a reduced model, representing the model states at the finest scale. These bridging models typically involve integral equations over a spatial domain which are numerically solved through a discretization process. This paper investigates the error in the approximation of the state incurred by the spatial discretization of these bridging models. Sufficient conditions for the bridging models are given to control these errors in deterministic and stochastic multiscale problems.
