Role-Based Approaches for Agent Development

Roles seem to be a suitable concept for the development of agent-based systems. We have compared different approaches based on roles for agent development. This paper illustrates the used evaluation criteria and reports the lesson learned. 1. Evaluation Criteria The single features considered in our evaluation are explained in the following subsections. We have considered proposals appeared until 2003. Table 1 summarizes the features of each evaluated approach. 1.1. Support for Application Development In our opinion, one of the most important features of a role-based approach should be the support to the different phases of the development of agent-based applications, analysis, design and implementation. The support to one of these phases means that the considered approach provides for appropriate models or tools to help the developers. 1.2.
