Specifying timing constraints for real-time tasks using the HECTOR run-time environment

Yongheng Duan, Marion G. Harmon · 1999

A distributed real-time system is a system that comprises the distributed system model and some real-time properties, such as deadlines and priorities.Hector is a Heterogeneous Computing Task allocatOR.It is designed to support MPI (Message-Passing interface) parallel programs executing on a network of workstations. The tasks are dynamically allocated on different machines in a cluster of workstations. We have implemented a method of specifying time constraints for real-time tasks running under the control of Hector.By giving the deadline, execution time and other constraint information for real-time tasks, Hector will be better equipped to make intelligent decisions regarding the migration, suspension, termination or restart of realtime tasks as the execution environment changes (e.g., tasks overrunning their deadline or the arrival of a new higher priority task.)
