Time Scaling and Short-Time Spectral Analysis
Giuseppe Gambardella · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1968
If F(l) and F(ω) are a pair of Fourier transforms, then the property holds that time scaling corresponds to frequency scaling (by an inverse factor) and vice versa. The extension of this property to the case of the short-time Fourier integral F(l,ω) is investigated. It is found that the property does not hold for most conventional spectrum analyzers, whereas it holds for an interesting class of spectrum analyzers including the model of that special analyzer that is the peripheral auditory system.
