Symmetry detection of 2-D figures
Gongzhu Hu · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1990
A method for symmetry detection of 2-D figures is presented. This approach uses eigenvector fitting to find the approximate directions of the axes of symmetry. A normalized error of distance-difference is used as the validity measure of candidate lines for symmetry axes. The complexity of the search space of lines of symmetry is a constant, while the complexity of the algorithm is O(n) where n is the number of pixels on the boundary of the figure.
