The T Density for Speckle and Photo-counting Statistics

An approximate form of the probability density for integrated intensity in speckle and photo-counting statistics, the T density, is examined. Comparison with exact densities for sinc, sinc2 and gaussian kernels shows that the T density gives better results than the well-known o density. The applicability of the T density to arbitrary band-limited kernels is discussed.
