Application of Brillouin Amplifiers in Multichannel Communication Technologies

Mandelstam-Brillouin phenomenon and its application for amplification of optical signals are analyzed. Basic characteristics of Brillouin amplifiers and versions of their use as narrowband filters, as well as for coherent detection are given.
