Bandwidth and signal-data compression using maximum specified error as control

A. M. Sandman · Electronics Letters · 1985

A technique for bandwidth compression is described which is based on the principle of having an interpolation function between ‘important points’ and ensuring that the maximum error between the original function and the interpolation function is closely approached but never exceeded. The maximum error controls the placing of the ‘important points’.
