Abstract We formulate a mathematical setting for recovering microscopic parameters from macroscopic measurements by means of a two‐scale model. The model describes reaction and diffusion of a chemical substance in two phases of a porous medium. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
