Traveling wave speeds in rapidly oscillating media

In this paper we study the effects of periodicallyvarying heterogeneous media on the speed of traveling wavesin reaction-diffusion equations. Under suitable conditionsthe traveling wave speed of the non-homogenized problem canbe calculated in terms of the speed of the homogenizedproblem. We discuss a variety of examples and focusespecially on the influence of the symmetric andantisymmetric part of the diffusion matrix on the wave speed.
