Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a very important remote sensing technology instrument, as it has the notable characteristic of obtaining data under all-time and all-weather, but the coherent imaging theory leads to speckle noise which brings a lot of difficulty for its applications and interpretation. From the brought mechanism of speckle noise and the characteristic of experience mode decomposition (EMD), a new smoothing speckle noise method is proposed based on coherence and experience mode decomposition (CAEMD) for SAR images. The new method not only can hold the detailed information, but also can reduce speckle noise. Because the coherent operation can enhance target information and the EMD operation can keep down the background information. Some different SAR images and different reduce noise methods are used to perform comparative experiments, and results show that the CAEMD filtering method is feasible and effective.
