Searching for the elusive qubit

D.I. Lewin · Computing in Science & Engineering · 2001

When a series of qubits are strung together, they can store a variety of numbers simultaneously as superpositions of the quantum states. This is important for certain classes of problems where the required computing power increases exponentially with the number of elements. The author considers quantum computing research. He considers two-state quantum systems.
