Fluctuations in the optical reflection originating from the 1/f and other conductivity noises and some new noise-measurement principles

The fluctuations of mobility and/or concentration of free carriers yield a fluctuation of the complex refractive index of materials. This effect yields an amplitude and a phase fluctuation of the reflected electromagnetic waves and explains the 1/f noise of ring lasers. The proposed new noise-measurement principles may find applications even in the case of insulators.
