USING FINANCIAL CALCULATORS IN A BUSINESS MATHEMATICS COURSE
William H. Heller, Monty B. Taylor · PRIMUS · 2000
Financial calculators, such as the TI-83, TI BA II Plus, and HP-10B, have preprogrammed functions which allow one to easily solve time-value-of-money problems, such as compound interest, annuity, and mortgage problems. We discuss our experience integrating these calculators into a business mathematics course. In addition, we give a brief overview of the operation of financial calculators, review some of the more common financial calculators, show how to use the equation solver utility on some calculators (such as the TI-85) to emulate a financial calculator, and discuss the advantages of these calculators over scientific calculators and spreadsheets.
