A Frequency Analysis Method for Adjusting Electronic Cello
Joan E. Miller, M. V. Mathews · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1974
An electronic cello was constructed in a manner similar to previously described electronic violins [J. Acoust. Soc. Amer. 52, 147 (1972)]. The long-time-peak-spectra were measured for the electronic cello and for an acoustic cello. A chromatic scale passage of about 2-min duration was played on and spectrally analyzed for each instrument. The measurement technique is a modification of one described by E. Jansson and J. Sundberg [Progress Rep., Speech Transmission Lab., Royal Inst. Technol., Stockholm, Sweden (Jan. 1973)]. An adjustment network was designed for the electronic instrument to equate the two spectra. Listening tests showed that the network made the electronic instrument sound much more like the acoustic instrument.
