An important component of ad hoc network is transmitter power control, which contributes to minimize the interference, increase the wireless network capacity, and extend the battery life of active nodes in the wireless network. It ensures that these transmission at the minimum power level is necessary to achieve a specified quality of service (QoS) defined by the SINR (Signal to Interference Noise Ratio). A sliding mode variable structure power control algorithm of the ad hoc network is presented in this paper. The simulation results suggest that the proposed algorithm provides relatively better dynamic and steady-state performance than the linear quadratic control algorithm when the system affected by the external disturbance and internal parameter perturbation.
