This paper presents an overview of SOLUTION-33, a large financial software product which was developed to meet the need of major corporations to comply with the 1979 Statement 33 of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Intended for application programmers, the paper discusses design goals and technical design issues. The innovative approaches of this product include its design as a package financial product to meet a specific need of major corporations, its use of existing software as building blocks, and its extensive capability for customizations which can be sewn into the application without difficulty while protecting the security of the production APL code.
