This note describes a microprocessor development environment (MDE) that meets both the public educational sectors technical requirements and the constraints of low-cost, flexibility and maintainability.The individual parts of the system described are available in the public domain, via the academic community or available commercially at low cost. Each item is either obtainable in either source code form or is provided with an accompanying configuration system to allow tailoring to specific requirements.
