Development and Installation of Networked Undersea Measurement Systems using the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA)

This paper reports the development, design, and installation of the first major undersea system to be based on the emerging Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA). ATCA provides a modern, open- standard electronics platform for highly reliable network- centric systems. The ATCA system, installed in 2005 off the coast of Alaska, provides data acquisition and networking for thousands of low-noise, precision measurement sensors.
