A Social View on Unsolicited Bulk Email Impacts on Mobile Mail Addresses

The mobile Internet has been threatened by unsolicited bulk mail attacks. This threat has caused user adoption of the longer email addresses and exposes new user behaviors in always-on ubiquitous world. The author discusses the three factors of mail address evolution from the three perspectives: defensive, cognitive and social views. The author analyzes the address length transition over 4 years in Japan. The author describes an excessive user behavior on the use of special characters from the viewpoint of trade-offs among defensive, cognitive and social aspects
