Off-line machine recognition of forgeries

David E. Randolph, Ganapathy Krishnan · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1991

The handwritten signature is the most widely employed source of secure identification in the United States especially for cashing checks and verifying credit card transactions. Currently all signature verification is based on visual inspection by a teller or a store clerk. Previous successful techniques for forgery detection have primarily been on-line techniques. This paper describes an off-line technique that can spot forgeries with a accuracy of 94. 44 while accepting 92. 5 of genuine signatures.
