Delay-constrained maximized lifetime routing algorithm in wireless multimedia sensor networks

In order to provide real-time communication in wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs), the QoS-supported routing algorithm is addressed in the paper. Our basic idea is firstly to guarantee a delay upper bound to reality real-time communication, and secondly use the least energy-consumption path to minimize energy consumption for the whole network, which can prolong the lifetime of WMSNs. At the same time, in order to avoid a network is partitioned rapidly, a low energy wireless node will not be selected to as a delivery/routing node. With those policies, a new routing algorithm based on global link states is designed for WMSNs. As an important part of the algorithm, its correctness and some characteristic performances are analyzed and reasoned in theories. A conclusion can be drawn that the designed global link-state routing algorithm can guarantee end-to-end delay upper bound and maximize the network lifetime for real-time multimedia communication. At last, the simulation results verify the correctness of the algorithm in some degree.
