Physical Science and Archaeology
Robert E. M. Hedges · Interdisciplinary Science Reviews · 1980
Archaeometry, the area of co-operation between physical scientist and archaeologist, is at present enjoying a nourishing period. The particular form that this growth has taken is seen to result from the inherently different natures of the two disciplines. Metaphors are developed for these two so that their relationships can be explored, and enabling the special character of archaeometry to be understood. A detailed account of archaeometric work is then given, providing examples of the foregoing abstract considerations.
