The future of natural language processing (Panel Discussion)

Recent work in natural language processing has focused on the analysis of contextual cues present in written text. It has been argued that the detection of such cues does not reflect the methods used by humans engaged in the same task, since computer systems rely heavily on contrived micro-worlds and artificial scripts. Context detection under such conditions is said to be an oversimplification of the real-world process.
