Image scaling is a technique that is widely used in many image processing applications. The adaptive scaling techniques select the particular pixels in an image for processing. In this paper three different types of scaling algorithms such as Adaptive convolution scaling algorithm, modified adaptive convolution scaling algorithm and Edge enhanced adaptive scaling algorithm are compared for the 2-D image scaling applications. The bilinear interpolation is used in these image scaling techniques, as it has low complexity and high quality. However, there occur blurring and aliasing artifacts, which is overcome by the clamp filters and sharpening filters in the first two techniques. In edge enhanced adaptive scaling technique the sharpening filter is used to reduce the blur and the pixels for the bilinear interpolation is adaptively selected to enhance the edges. The performance is compared for the quality, memory, complexity and power requirements are compared for these three image scaling methods.
