Matched beam theory for unambiguous broadband direction finding

Johnny Henderson · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1985

Acoustic direction finding via paired beams is treated in detail for an implementation that is based upon the use of even-symmetric and odd-symmetric beam patterns. Included are beam matching, a new approach to analysis and elimination of angle ambiguities, simplified formulas for frequency sensitivity, steerable broadband nulls without the use of time delays, and the synthesis of interferometric outputs whose relative phase delay (not time delay) is independent of frequency and gives an unambiguous indication of direction.
