A variation of the sign algorithm for adaptive filtering

A variation of the sign algorithm is proposed for the adaptive adjustment of a finite-impulse-response digital filter with the aim of improving the convergence characteristics of the original algorithm. It is shown by computer simulation that the new algorithm performs significantly better than the sign algorithm with only a small increase in hardware.
