A method to determine correlation function through area moment

K. Venkataraman, H. M. Girija · International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology · 1985

The energy in a signal and the average power of the signal are shown to be related to the moment of the area under the signal plot about the time axis. This relationship is used to determine the correlation function for periodic signals like square wave, saw‐tooth, triangular wave and a train of impulses without resorting to integration or Fourier expansion. The simplicity and elegance of this method are illustrated through suitable examples.
